The JCAHO warns of more imposters
Healthcare Security Weekly, August 8, 2005
A Seattle hospital notified the JCAHO that two imposters posing as surveyors attempted to gain access to the facility. The hospital contacted local authorities and the FBI about the incident.
Because of the incident, the JCAHO sent out another reminder that when surveyors arrive, you should always ask them to show their Joint Commission ID badge.
Unannounced surveyors should also have a letter addressed to the head of the organization signed by Russell Massaro, MD, executive vice president of accreditation operations for the Joint Commission, which explains who the surveyors are and why they are there.
Anyone who experiences situations involving imposter surveyors should call their JCAHO account representative or Joe Cappiello, vice president of accreditation field operations for the JCAHO at 630/792-5757.
