Medicare announces reporting payment update
Quality Improvement Monitor, August 4, 2005
Hospitals reporting select quality data to CMS will receive a 3.7% increase in inpatient-service payments, according to a final rule issued August 1.
Only those hospitals participating in Medicare's quality reporting initative will receive the full 3.7% increase. Hospitals that do not submit quality information will receive an update of 3.3%.
Medicare expects most hospitals will participate in the reporting program in the 2006 fiscal year, the agency said in a press release. Almost 98% of U.S. hospitals reported quality data last year, according to Medicare statistics.
Hospitals must correctly abstract and report clinical data on 10 quality measures relating to the treatment of heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia cases for two consecutive calendar quarters to receive payment updates for the 2006 fiscal year, according to Medicare.
