APTA urges CMS to drop cardiac care rehab supervision
Rehab Private Practice Alert, August 3, 2005
APTA has asked CMS to eliminate generic standards for physician supervision and instead expand its national coverage policy for cardiac rehabilitation programs.
The association is asking for supervision to be determined by practice therapy because physical therapists do not require physician supervision due to their level of education and training.
APTA is also hoping that CMS will follow the guidelines created by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation to determine the number of cardiac rehab sessions that best suit an individual patient's health.
