CMS to host NPI roundtable
EHR Connection, August 2, 2005
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will conduct a roundtable conference call on the national provider identifier on Sept 14 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern. HIPAA enforcement officials will answer questions from the industry.
As of May 23, providers-including physicians, dentists, pharmacists, hospitals, nursing homes, pharmacies, and group practices-could apply for their identifiers, the numbers that will replace all identifiers currently used in standard transactions. HIPAA-covered entities must accept and use NPI in standard transactions by May 23, 2007. Small health plans, those with $5 million in annual revenues or less, have until May 23, 2008.
To participate, the call-in number is 877-203-0044 and the identification number is 5580762. There is no fee and registration is not required to participate.
