Exercise interruption can cause mood change

Rehab Private Practice Alert, July 27, 2005

A recent report by Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, linked stopping regular exercise routines to negative mood changes, according to Newsday. Fatigue and tension are other side effects of not exercising for as little as three days.

The report specifically studied unavoidable days off due to injury and said that rehab programs can help avoid the depression. Replacing normal exercise routines with rehab and treating therapy as a workout are good ways to avoid the side effects, reported Newsday.

Physical therapists can help by treating rehab in the same manner in order to keep their patients' spirits up.
