Medicare to offer doctors free EHR software
Physician Practice Advisor, July 27, 2005
Medicare is planning to offer doctors free EHR software, the New York Times reports. The software is called "Vista" and has been used for 20 years by facilities affiliated with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The software is free; doctors only need to pay for its installation. This could bring the cost of converting to EHR down by 90%, estimates the Times.
A possible problem: Vista is known for its difficult installation process. Medicare has said it will simplify the process for doctors' offices.
