CMS to gather views on ASC payment reform

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, July 26, 2005

CMS has scheduled an ASC Listening Session to gather feedback from individual ASCs on a number of payment issues, according to the American Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (AAASC).

A congressional mandate requires CMS to overhaul the ASC payment system by 2008. CMS will receive input on how to do so from many sources, and the listening session gives ASCs a chance to provide CMS with their views on a number reimbursement issues, including:

  • What would you suggest as the revised criteria for the ASC list of approved procedures?
  • How would you suggest that CMS update the ASC payment schedule?
  • Do you believe that the relative payment weights calculated for surgical ambulatory payment classification groups are appropriate under the hospital outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS)?

The session is scheduled for August 2 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., EST.

If you were not selected by CMS to participate in their listening session but would like to submit comments, e-mail cmascpps@cms.hhs.gov.
