Nashville doctor stripped of license
Healthcare Security Weekly, July 18, 2005
The Tennessee Board of Health revoked the medical license of a Nashville doctor after a series of improper conduct incidents relating to drug and alcohol abuse.
The board's report said a patient reported smelling alcohol on Rena Klarich's breath while performing surgery and seeing her hands shake.
There were also reports of her writing a prescription for painkillers and asking a patient to fill it and give them to her, according to The Tennessean. On another occasion she showed up to the hospital wearing lingerie and had to put on a lab coat to cover up.
The paper also reported that painkiller and alcohol abuse is a problem with more than 1,000 of the state's 10,455 licensed doctors.
