Chicago area SNF sued over pregnancy
LTC Liability Monitor, July 21, 2005
The mother of a disabled, pregnant, 23-year-old SNF resident seeks more than $1 million in damages from Alden Village Health Facility in Bloomingdale, IL. Cheryl Hale-Crom alleged that her daughter, Amy Jo Hale, was sexually assaulted in the winter of 2004 and became pregnant as a result, and also that she was showing signs of pregnancy for more than two months before her mother was notified, according to the Rockford Register Star.
Because of a seizure in her infancy, Amy Jo cannot walk or talk, eats via feeding tube, and wears an incontinence brief. Ultrasound scans show no irregularities in the unborn child, which will be delivered by Caesarean section in August. Police are currently collecting DNA samples from workers at the SNF, reported United Press International, and there are two additional sexual assault lawsuits pending against Alden Village.
