OHA warns hospitals of two scams

Healthcare Security Weekly, July 11, 2005

The Ohio Hospital Association (OHA) warned hospitals of two potential scams that hit one facility in the past two weeks.

One scam involved individuals entering a hospital and claiming to be physicians. The imposters asked questions about shift changes and requested lists of department managers. After the hospital discovered the people weren't affiliated with the hospital, the individuals left the building.

The second issue involved a woman with a foreign accent repeatedly calling the hospital, asking to page certain doctors. But none of the doctors she asked for worked for the hospital.

The OHA asked any other hospitals that experienced similar events to contact the OHA offices.
