Eye injuries easily preventable, says National Safety Council
Lab Safety Advisor, July 1, 2005
The National Safety Council estimates that 90% of all eye injuries are easily preventable. Whether an employee wears safety glasses, a face mask or works behind a Plexiglas shield is up to management and the type of operation being performed. Closed-tube sampling is an engineering control and eliminates the potential for splashes to the eyes. Therefore, eye protection would not be required. However, pouring chemicals or replacing chemical packs on instrumentation would require some type of protection.
