In England, it's curtains for some hospital-acquired infections

Infection Control Monitor, July 1, 2005

Disposable privacy curtains coated with a bactericidal are the newest weapons against hospital-acquired infections in England, according to a recent Centre for Healthcare Innovation and Development study.

The study found that in some hospitals staff waited more than a year to replace the privacy curtains, often allowing airborne dust contaminants that accumulate on the curtains to infect wounds during invasive procedures.

The new curtains save facilities a significant amount of money from cutting the length of patient days and even laundry costs, the study found.
