Infection Control Monitor, June 10, 2005
Health officials in Vietnam confirmed on Thursday that three more people contracted the avian bird flu in May, raising the number of infections in the country to 52 since December 2004, reports Reuters.
The three latest victims contracted the virus through sick poultry, according to the head of the Health Ministry's Preventive Medicine Department. All of the victims are stable, Vietnamese health officials say.
Also on Thursday, the Health Ministry revealed in a report to the World Health Organization that a suspected case of the bird flu virus in May resulted in another death. The death toll in Vietnam stands at 18.
