Man nabbed for using fake name at Wisconsin hospital

Healthcare Security Weekly, May 30, 2005

A Wisconsin man is accused of giving false information to a hospital after it was learned he used a fake name and a dead person's Social Security number to escape paying the bill, reports the La Crosse Tribune.

John M. Sobota, 44, maintained he was really "John K. Hawkens," even when officials at the Franciscan Skemp Medical Center called his bluff. Sobota confessed later to police, who tracked him down at his aunt's house. He claimed he lied to avoid paying the bill after the hospital admitted him with chest pains.
