New CPT code payable in an ASC
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, May 10, 2005
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that CPT code 66711 is now payable in an ASC after an accidental omission.
According to a CMS transmittal, CPT code 66711, Ciliary body destruction, cyclophotocoagulation, endoscopic, will be added to the ASC list of covered procedures in the July 2005 update, but will have an effective date of January 1, 2005.
"Procedures performed between January 1, 2005 and July 1, 2005 may be billed retrospectively using the new code 66711 and payment may be made at the payment group 2 level," according to the transmittal.
CMS explains the omission by saying in the transmittal, "It came to the attention of the (CMS) that CPT code 66711.inadvertently was not added to the ASC list effective January 1, 2005. As a consequence, the procedures described by the new CPT code, could not be reported for payment in an ASC."
