Nurse charged with identity theft
Healthcare Security Weekly, March 28, 2005
A Randolph County, NC, nurse faced charges last week of 29 counts of financial identity fraud and allegedly used her position as a diabetes instructor at a hospital to find victims, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
Susan Pugh White, 51, allegedly stole the identity of 12 people, who took the class, Randolph County Sheriff Litchard Hurley told the AP.
White reportedly obtained personal information about the victims through the computer and produced fake driver's licenses and Social Security cards.
With the fake identities, she allegedly obtained credit cards and purchased $63,470.31 worth of merchandise over a six-month period. Items purchased include furniture, electronics, clothing, power tools, and appliances.
