Husband shoots wife in head at hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, April 4, 2005
Police identified a man last week who walked into a Houston hospital and allegedly shot his estranged wife in the face, television station KPRC reported.
Gerardo Gomez, 39, walked into Memorial Hermann Hospital's valet parking entrance early Friday morning to speak with his wife, Esmeralda Guerra, a receptionist at the hospital. He then shot her, investigators said. Guerra, 27, survived the shooting, but suffered serious injuries to her jaw. Police are still searching for Gomez.
There were a dozen witnesses to the shooting. They reported that Gomez accidentally dropped the pistol, picked it up, and left the facility after the shooting. He left the engine running to his white sport utility vehicle outside the entrance.
Hospital security cameras captured the shooting.
