Confidential hospital patient records scatter in the wind
Healthcare Security Weekly, April 11, 2005
Nearly 3,000 confidential patient hospital statements scattered all over downtown Cleveland (OH) last Tuesday after a box fell off the back of a delivery truck, according to The Associated Press.
Officials from the Cleveland Clinic Hospital System, which includes Lakewood and Marymount hospitals, said it would contact all affected patients.
A spokeswoman for the research hospital said an investigation to determine how the incident occurred was in progress.
The statements included patient names, patient numbers, home addresses, insurers and policy numbers, treating physicians, admission and discharge dates, and billing information.
