Medical records, samples stolen from Chicago clinic
Healthcare Security Weekly, April 25, 2005
Medical records, as well as blood and stool samples, have been stolen from a Chicago clinic, reports The Associated Press.
Making matters worse, workers at the Northwest Memorial Physicians Group didn't notify authorities until nine days after the theft, which took place on April 4.
Clinic officials say the workers didn't realize that the box contained medical samples and records that were to be delivered to a laboratory for tests. The medical records reveal Social Security numbers, which can be used for identity theft.
