Police kill man connected to hospital murder

Authorities are investigating why a man shot and killed his hospitalized 78-year-old wife last Tuesday, and why the Columbus (OH) hospital waited for more than an hour to report the crime, reports The Associated Press.
Harry Brown, 76, allegedly shot his wife, Inge, twice in the head. She was an Alzheimer's patient at Mount Carmel East Hospital and was awaiting placement in a nursing home.
Police confronted Brown at his apartment later that day. A police spokesperson says authorities killed Brown after he pulled out a gun and refused to surrender his weapon.
Brown left a note at his home that read, "Sorry Officers," say police.
Authorities believe the shooting of his wife may have been a "mercy killing."
Hospital staff first responded to an alarm early Tuesday morning indicating that Inge Brown's condition had changed. Staff did not hear either of the gun shots, hospital officials say.
The security manager waited 74 minutes before calling 911.
A hospital spokeswoman says she is unaware of any laws mandating that a hospital contact authorities within a specific time frame following an act of violence.
