Bird flu vaccine ready for testing
Infection Control Monitor, February 25, 2005
The federal government is preparing to test bird flu vaccines as the threat of the virus spreading from Asia increases, the Associated Press reports.
The first doses of the experimental vaccine are nearly ready for testing. In addition, the government is stockpiling antiviral drugs.
Officials are storing two million doses of vaccine in bulk form for possible emergency use and to determine if it maintains its potency.
The virus is not known to have spread from human to human. So far, humans have contracted the flu from chickens and other poultry in Asian countries, leading to 45 deaths.
