AORN seeks comment on recommendations for sterile field practices
Infection Control Monitor, March 4, 2005
A committee of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) is seeking public comment between now and March 25 on its recommended practices for maintaining a sterile field.
The recommendations of the Recommended Practices Committee provide guidance for establishing and maintaining a sterile field, which can directly influence patient outcomes. When healthcare workers involved in surgical interventions follow aseptic practices, it helps protect patients from injury. They implement aseptic practices preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively to minimize wound contamination and reduce patient risks for surgical site infections.
