MN governor calls for nursing home overhaul
LTC Liability Monitor, April 28, 2005
Minnesota's nursing home system is 30 years out of date and needs a complete overhaul, Governor Tim Pawlenty said this week, according to the Duluth News Tribune. The governor called for more options for Minnesota's senior citizens, such as home health care and assisted-living services.
The state legislature is considering increasing Medicaid reimbursement rates by 2% for 2005 and 2006. This is a positive move, said Pawlenty, but reimbursement is only one of the problems with the current nursing home model, the News Tribune reported.
