Groups voice concern over nursing home bill
LTC Liability Monitor, April 28, 2005
A group of vocal critics are speaking out against Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius' approval of a new nursing home bill, the Lawrence, KS Journal-World reported. Sebelius signed into law the bill that will make nursing home inspection reports inadmissible in civil lawsuits.
Opponents-including the Statewide Independent Living Council of Kansas, The Disability Rights Center, and the AARP-say the bill will allow nursing homes to hide bad reports and create a precedent for other industries. Advocates say the bill will help lower the cost of insurance for facilities and allow them to provide better care by reducing legal costs, the newspaper reported.
