Medicare physician reimbursement formula under review

Physician Practice Advisor, April 27, 2005

Despite Congressional budget office projections that it will cost billions, both democrat and republican members of Congress are working to change the Medicare physicians' reimbursement formula that cuts payments to doctors.

Fixing the reimbursement formula, which includes a review of align pay and quality, is a top agenda item for House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health Chairperson Nancy L. Johnson (R-Conn.).

"We're working hard to move forward on this," the congressional representative told attendees at the American College of Emergency Physicians 2005 Leadership and Advocacy Conference. "I am bound and determined to change this; it's going to be a tough struggle."
