EHR certification requirements released
EHR Connection, April 18, 2005
Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology workgroups Monday released for public comment preliminary proposed requirements to certify ambulatory care EHR products.
The proposed requirements cover:
- functionality
- interoperability
- security
- reliability
- certification process
The commission will accept comment on the proposed requirements through May 18 and will release a set of refined requirements-developed for pilot programs-for additional comment this summer.
The initial requirements issued today are "very early-stage" criteria for vendor certification, Mark Leavitt, MD, commission chair and medical director of the Health Information Management System Society, said in a report. "We want to give the public a chance to look and comment before we get too far down the road."
Vendors that want to participate in pilot programs will have to apply. The initial certification requirements are available at www.cchit.org.
