Oklahoma to overhaul nursing home examiners board
LTC Liability Monitor, April 14, 2005
An Oklahoma senate committee approved a bill to vacate the state board of nursing home examiners and allow the governor to appoint a new board, the Muskogee [OK] Daily Phoenix and Times-Democrat reported. The bill comes after Senator Bernest Cain, a member of the senate Health and Human Services Committee, questioned the current Oklahoma Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators' response to complaints. Cain cited a group of articles in the Tulsa World that found the board dismissed 83% of cases over a three year period.
The bill will oblige the 13-member board to investigate and take action on any complaints it receives and to develop a code of ethics, the Times-Democrat reported. The bill also forbids any nursing home officials from being guardians and holding powers of attorney for residents.
