Louisiana considers background checks on residents
LTC Liability Monitor, April 14, 2005
A Louisiana lawmaker has proposed a bill that would require background checks on people applying for admission to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported. Under House Bill 121, state police would check the backgrounds of applicants in Louisiana and the FBI would examine their out-of-state records. Representative Kenneth Odinet, who filed the bill, wants the applicant and the nursing home to split the cost of the background check, according to the Times-Picayune. The bill does not specify how a facility should proceed after it has obtained the information.
