E-prescribing recommendations released
EHR Connection, April 4, 2005
The American Medical Informatics Association and the Joint Clinical Decision Support Workgroup of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society recently released recommendations to help shape e-prescribing systems.
The report suggests that the government facilitate demonstration projects, that vendors improve their products, and that providers start selecting their systems. The group submitted its recommendations to the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics in March. It also recommended that HIT groups create a public clearinghouse of information to help vendors and providers avoid redundancy in their efforts to develop clinical decision-support content and improve the information used in clinical applications. The eHealth Initiative and CMS were also involved in the report--which was funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
