Police respond to violent patient at hospital emergency room
Healthcare Security Weekly, March 21, 2005
A South Lake Tahoe (CA) woman's struggle with Carson-Tahoe Hospital emergency room staff last week ended in her arrest, the Tahoe Daily Tribune reported.
Katherine Elizabeth Hurwitz, 26, allegedly hit her husband and fought with staff, and tried to smear blood from a wound on her head on security staff.
Police responded to a domestic violence call at the hospital after Hurwitz allegedly struck her husband in the face. Hospital staff attempted to restrain her, but she then tried to remove staples from her head and wipe blood on security officers. Police removed Hurwitz from the premises and taken to jail.
She faces charges for domestic battery, battery, disorderly conduct, and a felony charge for committing an "unlawful act related to human blood."
Police are investigating the incident.
