In 2002, a patient jumped to his death from the top floor of the hospital parking ramp. The state Bureau of Quality Assurance investigated that death and found the hospital deficient in its operation of the unit.

The Bureau of Quality Assurance, which licenses hospitals, is launching an investigation into the operation of the mental health unit, police confirmed.
