Judges won’t allow inmates at TN hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, March 7, 2005
Two judges in Chattanooga, TN, ordered last week that the Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute may no longer evaluate inmates, station WVLT reported.
The judges cited safety concerns as the reason to discontinue the inmate evaluations. Last month, two sheriff's deputies received injuries at the facility when hospital security officers told them to remove the hand and leg restraints from an unruly inmate against their wishes. The inmate struck one deputy, shattering his eye socket and knocking him unconscious. The other deputy suffered a fractured leg in the scuffle.
The incident is still under investigation.
