New law will protect facilities from lawsuits
LTC Liability Monitor, March 23, 2005
The Georgia legislature voted Monday to protect from lawsuits health care agencies providing care to the poor, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. House Bill 166 is intended to provide medical services-such as those available from doctors, dentists, and nursing homes-to Georgians living at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. About 15,000 health care providers plan to donate time and services to the poor. Under HB166, the state will be liable for any mistakes made by participating health care providers when caring for poor residents, the Journal-Constitution reported.
