Governor endorses nursing home legislation
LTC Liability Monitor, February 23, 2005
A bill to curb nursing home abuse is gaining strength in the Kentucky General Assembly after a show of support from Gov. Ernie Fletcher, the Associated Press (AP) reported. Under the bill, social workers, police, and prosecutors would receive special training on how to recognize and respond to elder abuse.
Advocates of the legislation say it will stop elder abuse complaints from getting lost in the system by providing specific instructions for reporting and investigating allegations. Fletcher has a personal connection to the bill, AP reported-his wife's grandmother was a victim of nursing home abuse.
