CIOs expected to boost HIT spending
EHR Connection, February 21, 2005
Seventy-five percent of hospital chief information officers (CIO) plan to increase spending this year, the Dallas Morning News reports. The need to upgrade, general technology growth, budget increases, and change in the organizational strategic plan are the cited grounds for increased spending, according to a survey conducted at Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference last week in Dallas.
Forty-two percent of CIOs surveyed said they would definitely spend more money, and 34% said they would probably spend more. Of those who said they would spend more, 6% said they would increase spending by more than 20%, and 14% said they would increase spending by 11% to 20%, the Morning News reports.
The survey also found that internal IT staffing growth will be minimal, as nearly 75% of respondents said they outsource at least one IT function.
