Physician charged with falsifying documents

LTC Liability Monitor, February 17, 2005

The Maryland medical disciplinary board has charged a physician-legislator with falsifying documents regarding the competency of three nursing home residents in his care, the Associated Press (AP) reported. The board alleges that Dan K. Morhaim, a medical supervisor at Ruxton Health and Rehabilitation in Pikesville, MD, signed forms indicating that three residents suffered from dementia without conducting a medical examination.

The forms were part of the process of putting a living will into action for each of the residents. In the state of Maryland, two doctors must examine a patient to confirm he or she is dying or mentally incompetent before an advance directive can take effect. Morhaim claims he signed the forms to help a social worker expedite paperwork at the end of a difficult pregnancy, AP reported
