President's budget could hurt vets' nursing homes
LTC Liability Monitor, February 17, 2005
President Bush's proposed 2006 budget would cut $496 million from veterans' nursing homes, U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar told Veterans Administration Secretary Jim Nicholson, the Denver, CO, Rocky Mountain News reported. Salazar, a Colorado Democrat, also said changes in coverage for veterans with non-service related disabilities could reduce the national nursing home population by at least 5,000 residents. In Colorado, a preliminary count of residents in veterans homes found that up to 20% would be affected by the cuts, the newspaper reported.
