Florida physicians pilot "Information Rx"

Under a pilot program called project "Information Rx" launched on Feb. 14, physicians from six Florida counties will begin referring their patients to MedlinePlus, a consumer health Web site of the National Institutes of Health.
MedlinePlus, also available in Spanish, has information on more than 700 health topics. Under each topic, patients will find information on symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, news stories, research studies, clinical trials, and video tutorials. The site includes detailed but easy-to-read information on thousands of over-the-counter and prescription drugs, too.
The program's mission is to improve health literacy and patient education by combining high quality sources of information with the interpersonal intervention and encouragement of a trusted medical provider.
