Online community allows quality improvement discussion

Quality Improvement Monitor, February 10, 2005

A new online forum encourages open sharing of best practices to promote quality improvement in New York hospitals.

Joint Effort New York (JENY) is run by IPRO, the state's quality improvement organization and has enlisted nearly 1,000 users from across New York state since launching in August 2004, according to an IPRO statement.

The site includes interactive areas in which users may participate. They include

  • A conference hall featuring general works and knowledge. Features include an information booth, help desk, conference-call schedule, archives, and a general quality improvement discussion area.
  • Breakout rooms to discuss IPRO collaboratives. These include cardiac care, smoking cessation, infectious diseases, and nursing-home quality.
  • Cafe Melior, a less-formal way for members to share ideas and chat off-topic.
