Washington looking into the need to review CON

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, February 8, 2005

The state of Washington is looking to improve and update its certificate of need (CON) program by creating a task force to study the program and offer recommendations to the governor and legislature.

The bill calls for a review of Washington's CON legislation, enacted in 1979, because "the development of new health care technologies has resulted in significant advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, and has enabled substantial expansion of sites where complex care and surgery can be performed."

The task force will consult advisory committees, which will include representatives from ambulatory surgery centers.

The task force's report must be submitted by October 1, 2006.
