Duke hospitals to have complete CPOE by summer
EHR Connection, February 8, 2005
Less than two months after Duke University's Heart Center in Durham, NC, added computerized physician order entry (CPOE), more than 100 physicians are using the system, NewsRxHealthMedicine reports. By summer, when the rollout is complete, more than 1,000 physicians will be on board.
Duke physicians began using CPOE in September 2004 and use quickly expanded to the Heart Center by November, with nearly 65,000 orders each month. Duke and McKesson are also working on a solution that will combine Duke's implementation experience in evidence-based medicine with McKesson's market reach to hospitals across the nation. E-prescribing and CPOE must be developed in tandem to reach the country's e-health initiative goal.
