JCAHO seeks comments on unapproved abbreviations
Pharmacy Regulation Resource, February 2, 2005
The JCAHO seeks comments on proposals that came out of the National Summit on Medical Abbreviations on November 23, 2004.
The one-day summit brought together more than 50 professional societies and associations to reach a consensus on abbreviations, acronyms, and symbols and their relation to medical errors.
The JCAHO now seeks comment from healthcare professionals on the summit's conclusions, including whether there should be a standardized unapproved abbreviations list, how extensive it should be, and what should be added.
Interested organizations should go to the JCAHO www.jcaho.org/accredited+organizations/field_reviews.htm and select the proper accreditation program link to complete the 30-minute survey. Organizations have until March 1 to submit comments.
