New UB-04 form from the NUBC
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, January 25, 2005
With the eight-year moratorium on changes to the UB-92 data structure over, its successor, the UB-04, is prepping to take the helm.
The newly designed form complete with 46 changes-including added code fields-has a target implantation date of January 2007. The National Uniform Billing Committee (NUBC) is seeking comment on the UB-04 through February 1, 2005.
The NUBC had several goals in their redesign: to make the old form HIPAA-compliant, improve the denial rate, and reduce the need for resubmittals.
The American Health Information Management Association said that the UB-92 outlived its usefulness and it is time for a major overhaul to capture the additional or different information that people are more interested in today.
