Don't miss out on reporting quality data to CMS
Quality Improvement Monitor, January 20, 2005
Be aware of the window after the close of a quarter to submit your quality data to CMS, agency officials said during a recent open door forum.
Hospitals have four months after the end of a quarter to report their data to CMS. After the four-month period ends, CMS stops the reporting process to aggregate data and post it on the Internet.
If hospitals have corrections to make to their data, they must do it during that four-month period, officials said.
"It really behooves the hospital to watch very closely the window of opportunity for correction," said Charlotte Yeh, MD, regional administrator of the CMS Boston office.
For example, February 15 is the deadline for data from the third quarter of 2004. CMS will post the data at the end of March.
Work with your vendor to make sure your data was submitted correctly, said Sheila Roman, MD, MPH, senior medical officer for the CMS quality measurement and health assessment group. You can check your data online at QualityNet Exchange, www.qnetexchange.com.
