Hospital volunteer swipes gift shop cash
Healthcare Security Weekly, January 13, 2005
A Delnor-Community Hospital volunteer was charged last week with stealing thousands of dollars from its gift shop, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Rakesh Bali, 40, was arrested by police at the hospital, located in Geneva. As a volunteer, Bali would tally weekly sales receipts from the hospital's gift shop. Another volunteer discovered Bali taking cash and stealing checks and reported the theft to hospital officials in December, the police reported.
Bali allegedly told police that he threw away the stolen checks and spent the cash at a casino, the Tribune reported.
