Delaware to create statewide EHR network with federal grant money
EHR Connection, January 6, 2005
Delaware will be connecting doctors, laboratories, hospitals, pharmacies, and other healthcare facilities in a statewide electronic network funded with $700,000 in federal grant money. The state expects the infrastructure to be fully operational in three to five years, reports the Delaware News Journal.
Patients will use smart cards to authorize medical staff access to their health information. Although no plans have been finalized, patients can decide what information will be available on their cards, according to the Journal.
