Facility likely to close due to violations

LTC Liability Monitor, January 5, 2005

An Iowa nursing home accused of providing inadequate care may be forced to close, according to Obesity, Fitness & Wellness Week.

Riverbend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located in Muscatine, has been on the state's list of most troubled homes for three years and has been fined $61,650 since July. Authorities forced the facility to operate under a conditional license for the past six months, but the home still failed to meet state and federal standards during that time. T

he Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals told federal regulators that the home should not be given any more chances and recommended federal authorities discontinue inspections. If authorities do stop the inspections, the home will lose its Medicaid reimbursement and most likely close, reported Obesity, Fitness & Wellness Week.
