FDA identifies medical devices no longer safe to distribute

Infection Control Monitor, December 3, 2004

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a list of reprocessed single-use medical devices that are no longer safe for use.

The FDA sought data from companies that reprocessed medical devices originally intended for single use to determine which ones they could continue marketing. The data included information on cleaning, sterility, and a device's ability to function.

Following review of the data, the FDA identified devices that companies can continue to market legally and which ones are not safe anymore. Click on this link http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/reuse/svs/svslist-nolegal.html to view a list of devices that companies may no longer distribute.
