$108K settlement in pneumonia death

An Arkansas skilled nursing facility has reached a settlement with the family of a mentally disabled resident who died of pneumonia in 2003, reported Patient Care Law Weekly. The family discovered the circumstances surrounding the man's death when a local newspaper ran an article reporting that the state Office of Long-Term Care had investigated the facility's care of the resident.
The Arkansas Claims Commission approved the settlement and it will go before the state legislature in January, according to Patient Care Law Weekly.
