State passes tort reform
LTC Liability Monitor, December 15, 2004
The state of Ohio has passed tort reform putting a $500,000 cap on "pain and suffering" awards, according to BestWire. Advocates say the reform will promote a healthy business climate and discourage doctors from leaving Ohio for states with tort reform, as has been the case in Missouri and Illinois, reported BestWire.
Ohio follows Mississippi, which has $500,000 cap on non-economic damages and medical malpractice cases, and Texas, which has a $250,000 cap on awards against single health-care facilities.
